rank 50% better on google by optimising for snippets
Let's take a brief minute to talk snippets.
If you've done a Google anytime recently, you'll have seen snippets - little nuggets of information that appear above search results that answer your query. They're often pulled directly from website content, or meta descriptions from related pages. And they're designed to provide you with the information you need as quickly and concisely as possible.
It's great for serving user intent, but it does make it harder to your business to get noticed on Google, as standard responses are shifted further down the page. There's also a risk that queries will get answered within the snippet, meaning your audience never actually click on the link to visit your website.
Nevertheless, a solid content marketing strategy should focus on getting your snippets featured ahead of your competitors. Not only will it help improve your brand's visibility and help establish you as an authority in your field, but it could help drive organic traffic to your website.
Google picks these snippets based on two things - how well they answer your question, and how helpful they are. And serving user intent is a key part of my recommendations when helping my clients create effective website copy.
For one client alone, implementing a new snippet-friendly content strategy has seen rankings improve by more than 50% in less than a week. This has involved:
- changing the way we structure content
- altering the format of our FAQs
- avoiding jargon and unnecessary details
and more.
And in the past year I've worked closely with the great Nikki Pilkington who has provided exceptionally valuable knowledge and experience in SEO that I've been able to take forward into my retainer work and projects to benefit my clients.
